Our 5-Step Design/Build Process

1. Initial Consultation

Contact us about your home renovation project for a free initial consultation! We'll schedule a time that is convenient to meet at your home to discuss your project. During our meeting, together we will review your project goals, budget and walk-though the space to examine building factors. If you have collected any inspiration photos, this is the perfect time to present them!

2. Design

During the design phase, we will prepare hand-drawings of the floorplan (at no cost to our client) based on our initial consultation. If your space has any building limitations, we will creatively work around them to find the best solution. Together we will discuss our proposed designs to determine if they best fit your needs. At this time, we will discuss your budget and construction timing on the project. If preferred, About Space Builders can also create computer-generated 2D floor plans or 3D renderings of your space (for a fee).

3. Contract

If you are pleased with the design phase and would like to proceed, About Space Builders will prepare a detailed contract outlining the costs, construction agreement, timeline, warranties and payment schedule. Contracts include allowances for choosing finishing materials such as flooring and cabinetry, enabling clients make their own selections while keeping in budget. Upon contract signing, the first initial payment is due.

4. Construction

During the construction phase, our first step is to apply for a building permit from your township. Upon permit approval, About Space Builders will place any special orders that require extra manufacturing time. And depending on the size of your project, we may park our mobile workshop in your driveway.

As construction begins, you will meet the rest of the About Space construction team, consisting of full-time licensed and insured craftsmen, consultants and a trusted network of carefully screened trade partners. We will be on-site everyday, constantly working with you and refining the design as needed throughout the project.

As most families are living through the construction, we take special care to protect your property and keep construction dust/debris confined. We haul all trash away and will not place an unsightly dumpster on-site. At the end of each day, we clean-up the job site to protect your children and pets.

5. Final Walk-Through

When construction is complete, together we will inspect the project, finalize any punch list items, complete any final township inspections, handle lawn restoration services, review warranties and take post-construction photos. Your newly remodeled space will be move-in ready!
